of us will remember, a tractor trailer in the water of the bay after plunging off of the bay bridge. now, two years later, the family of the driver who drowned settled a lawsuit. good morning, once again. good morning, once again don and everyone. the final settlement isn't exactly what the family had originally hoped for, it brings closier to the tragedy. >> reporter: it was more than two years ago that the 57-year- old truck driver was killed in this terrifying crash. his tractor trailer plunged off of the bay bridge when he swerved to avoid an on coming camaro driven by a 19-year-old. the two families settled on a civil suit. baldwin will pay $100,000, that's the maximum amount under

her insurance. >> she's remorseful and she didn't set it to have an accident. >> reporter: initially, the shorts wanted $7 million listed the state as available. they argued that twoway traffic is dangerous on the span and that the corrosion should have been repaired. surely, for the safety of the city decisions -- citizens, more should have been done. >> reporter: the shores dropped the claims as long as the state made the bridge safer. >> baldwin moved to alaska to seek solace. she had alcohol in her system, but the level was too low to press charges. she paid traffic tickets instead. >> i'm not going to say they're happy it's resolved, but relieved it's over. for >> reporter: she's also pregnant, married, and earning

a college degree in alaska. thank you, and they'll receive a check later this month. dna evidence helps put a man behind bars. back in june, a woman was assaulted. and the police arrested the 24- year-old saying he matched the descriptions. and johns hopkins is asked to review security procedures after a man opened fire inside the hospital. the panel that accredited hospitals asked hopkins to put together a report on the current security measures and improvementings. hopkins has 45 days to submit the report. >> the metro rail system is safer now than it was last year.

in sworn testimony, the metro said they made clear, safety progress and the system is implementing 2 dozen recommendations and replacing aging rail cards. >> >> the baltimore city school buildings are causing some students to lag behind. gigi barnett has more on a new call for improvement. >> reporter: baltimore city schools are old. the classrooms that feel like the refrigerators turn into boiler rooms in the spring. there was no air-conditioning and i have to tell you, the kids were melting in the chairs, sitting in puddles of their own sweat. >> some students walked to class nearly in the dark. we had problems with the lights. they would go out and they've gotten in the way of our, well, our work. >> reporter: it's a tale that the city council members have heard before. they heard it again tonight at
